At Ryder, we believe in promoting environmentally sound business practices and are committed to reducing risk and building value for our company—and our customers—as part of an overall strategy to improve transportation efficiencies.

So, how does a company known for its trucks and logistical services act on a commitment to environmentally sound business practices? Well, we start by leveraging our industry expertise and the latest technologies to proactively manage fuel and energy consumption. We then share what we learn with others. We understand that significantly reducing the environmental impact of transportation activities requires the collaboration of like-minded customers and partners who are willing to make the necessary investments in green equipment, technology and processes. As an industry leader, we’ll continue to leverage the unique relationships we have with diverse leaders in business, government and academia to influence a broader understanding of the advantages of a sustainable business agenda.

Here are just some of the things we’re doing every day to adopt sustainable practices and provide responsible and efficient solutions for our company and our customers.

EPA SmartWay® Program
Ryder is closely monitoring emerging issues related to climate change and has partnered with the EPA’s SmartWay® program to promote energy efficiency to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

RydeGreen™
Responding to an increasing demand for cost-effective, environmentally friendly transportation solutions, our new RydeGreen™ line of tractors and trailers reduces fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, and gives customers the latest technology and designs to help reduce idling and improve fuel efficiency.

Energy Conservation
For many decades, we’ve been committed to conserving energy. Ryder currently tracks energy use and measures GHG emissions at select facilities across North America. We also strongly consider energy efficiencies when purchasing new equipment and designing or renovating facilities.

ENERGY STAR Building Design
Ryder has opened a 150,000-square-foot, three-story ENERGY STAR office building in Novi, Michigan. This state-of-the-art facility consumes 6.7 million fewer kBtu’s per year, saves $139,800 in annual operation costs and annually results in 1,450 fewer tons of CO2 when compared with an average unimproved office building.

Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel Fuel
In 2006, Ryder voluntarily committed to a “one-fuel” policy, converting all fueling locations to low-emission Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) fuel and is currently delivering 100 percent ULSD at all fueling locations.

Ryder’s industry-leading environmental management programs not only have a significant positive impact on the environment, they’re also a source of pride for our customers, colleagues and leaders. In acknowledgement of our efforts, Ryder was recognized by Inbound Logistics Magazine as both a Green Supply Chain Partner and one of the 25 Greenest Companies in Logistics. Inspired?
