Work/Life Initiatives

Work/life business practices are initiatives that Ryder has implemented in order to provide employees with a greater work/life balance while strengthening the bottom line. Several of Ryder’s work/life initiatives are listed below.
FlexChoices Program
Our FlexChoices program is provided as a tool to enable both managers and employees to work together to ensure we meet our business commitments while recognizing and addressing the demands of life outside of work. Ryder has developed guiding principles that define the application process and ensure that all employees will have access to the same consideration process. The program allows employees to initiate a request for a flexible work arrangement that sustains or enhances the business.
Program Options - The three flexible work arrangements included in FlexChoices are:
- Flextime: offers variations in an employee’s starting and ending times within limits set by management
- Compressed Schedule: provides a schedule in which a full-time workload is worked in less than the standard or traditional number of days
- Telecommuting: allows for the fulfillment of job responsibilities at a site other than the employee’s primary business on a periodic basis
Note: This policy does not apply in situations where employees are eligible for coverage under The Americans with Disabilities Act, Family Medical Leave Act, Workers’ Compensation or other applicable federal, state or local laws. Such employees will be considered for flexible work arrangements in accordance with the respective laws.
Employee Assistance Program
The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provided by the Company makes professional counseling available for you and your family on a voluntary basis. EAP has two components, the Counseling and Referral Program and the Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Program.
Domestic Partner Benefits
Domestic Partner Benefits are offered to employees whose partners are of the same or opposite sex, provided they meet specific criteria outlined in the benefits program.
Tuition Assistance
Ryder reimburses 75 percent of tuition costs after completion of pre-approved, job-related courses or a job-related degree program. To receive aid, you must be a regular, full-time employee of Ryder, actively employed by the company at the beginning and end of the course(s) and receive no less than a grade of C or its equivalent in the course(s).
