Sanford (Sandy) Hodes is Ryder’s Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel, responsible for all of the day-to-day legal functions for Ryder’s operating business units, with each of the three division General Counsels reporting to him. Mr. Hodes’ team is responsible for litigation and all sales and other corporate transactions related to purchasing, information technology and real estate. In addition, Mr. Hodes is responsible for all of Ryder’s commercial and environmental litigation and he and his team support the corporate functions related to environmental services; safety, health and security; corporate tax; and risk management. Mr. Hodes joined Ryder’s Legal Department in 2002 to manage commercial litigation. Since that time his role has evolved to include supporting other areas of the company and working closely with each operating business unit as well as managing the administrative staff and legal department internal and external budget. Prior to joining Ryder, Mr. Hodes practiced law for several large law firms in New York City and northern New Jersey as a trial lawyer handling complex commercial litigation. While in private practice, he counseled national and international clients in diverse and complex commercial matters and represented them in litigation before state and federal courts and administrative agencies. He also served as the Senior Vice President and General Counsel for a technology company involved in spatial data management. Mr. Hodes earned his Juris Doctorate from George Washington University Law School and his undergraduate degree in economics from Lehigh University.
